Dr. Reddy established Louisiana Cornea Specialists in June 2009. We moved to our current location in August 2011. Prior to moving to Louisiana, Dr. Reddy had been in private practice in central and eastern Kentucky from 2006 through 2008. He grew up in Appalachia in southeastern Kentucky, frequently accompanying his father, an ophthalmologist as well. After high school, Dr. Reddy attended University of Rochester (New York) as a Bausch & Lomb Science Scholar. He completed a dual degree program, obtaining a B.S in Microbiology and a B.A. in Economics. While in undergrad, he also began his research career in ophthalmology. By graduation, he had 6 published abstracts and 3 poster presentations at national meeting. He then attended the University of Kentucky School of Medicine, earning his M.D. in 2000, at the age of 24. Dr. Reddy completed a medicine internship at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation (New Orleans, LA) and a residency in Ophthalmology at LSU Eye Center under noted ophthalmologists Herb Kaufman, Bruce Barron, Claude Burgoyne. While a resident, Dr. Reddy presented research at national meetings every year. Following residency. Dr. Reddy completed a fellowship in Cornea & External Disease at the Illinois Eye & Ear Infirmary on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus in 2005-6. His mentors were distinguished ophthalmologists Joel Sugar, Elmer Tu, Ali Djalilian and Dimitri Azar. While in fellowship, he began the lamellar keratoplasty program, being the first surgeon to perform Descemets Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK). DSEK is now considered the standard treatment for endothelial corneal disease. In 2007-8, Dr. Reddy performed over 50% of all DSEK in central Kentucky. Dr. Reddy has written multiple articles, one book chapter, and is routinely an invited instructor at national ophthalmology meetings.
